Harbin Engineering University (HEU) dates back to the PLA Military Engineering Institute founded in 1953. Under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Harbin Engineering University is one of the "seven sons of national defense", covering science, engineering, literature, law, economics, management and other disciplines. It is one of the first universities of the national "211 Project", "Project 985" advantageous discipline innovation platform construction universities, and national "double first-class" construction universities.
The predecessor of College of Mathematical Science is the Mathematics Teaching and Research Office of the PLA Military Engineering Institute. Professor LU Qingjun, a famous mathematician, mathematics educator and missile and space technology expert, served as the director of the office. It cultivated a group of well-known experts and scholars, such as DAI Yishan, WANG Hao and ZHANG Jinhuai and many international mathematics talents, such as LIN Zongzhu and GUAN Bo.
In 1977, the mathematics discipline enrolled undergraduates for the first time. In 2004, the college was approved to grant master's degree in applied mathematics. In 2011, the undergraduate mathematics and applied mathematics was awarded the key discipline in Heilongjiang Province. In 2018, the college was approved as the first level doctoral degree authorization center of mathematics. In 2019, the college was approved as the key laboratory of Marine Science and Engineering Mathematics of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of. In 2020, the college was approved as the national "first-class undergraduate specialty" construction center of mathematics and applied mathematics, and also in 2020, the collgeg was approved as the key laboratory of engineering applied mathematics of Heilongjiang Province.
The discipline of mathematics follows the development philosophy of "science first, combining science and engineering", and is committed to cultivating specialized talents with a sound theoretical foundation, strong thinking and analytical abilities, and good practical and innovative abilities.
