Mathematics is a formal and rigorous methodology of logical reasoning to study the quantitative relations, spatial forms and their movements and changes in the objective world, as well as more general relations, structures, systems, patterns and other logically possible forms and their transformations and expansion. Mathematical science plays a unique and irreplaceable role in understanding natural phenomena and describing the laws of nature. It has become a accurate scientific language and the basis of all natural sciences. Mathematics is a scientific system with wide range, many branches and a wide range of applications.
The school of mathematical science of Harbin Engineering University isinherited from the mathematics teaching and research center of Harbin Military Industry University, where Professor Lu Qingjun, a famous mathematician, mathematics educator and missile and space technology expert, served as the director. Mathematics discipline has a long history of postgraduate training and is an important base to train high-level mathematics talents. At present, it has the right to grant first-level doctor's degree and master's degree in mathematics, as well as the key laboratory of "Marine Science and Engineering Mathematical Technology" of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the key laboratory of "Engineering Applied Mathematics" of Heilongjiang Province.
The mathematics discipline of Harbin Engineering University has established a high-level teaching staff with rich experience in personnel training, and has made important contributions in basic theory and application research. Basic research represented by algebra and differential equation theory and applied research represented by fluid calculation and Biomathematics have formed the characteristic research direction of the discipline. Mathematics also relies on our school's "three seas and one core" characteristic disciplines for extensive and in-depth research cooperation. Some research cooperation projects have formed products for application in related industries. The discipline attaches great importance to the internationalization of the teaching staff, with more than 50% of the total number of teachers with overseas experience for one year or more in a row. It has established stable exchanges and cooperation with universities in the United States, Britain, Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and other countries, and encouraged graduate students to carry out academic exchanges during their study.
