On June 19, the School of Mathematical Sciences, in collaboration with Qiuzhi College, held an undergraduate advancement seminar at Room 1 of the Yifu Building. The event was attended by professor Zhaobing Fan, Dean of the School, along with three distinguished graduate representatives, Hongxi Chen, Zhiyu Guo and Wenliang Tian, and approximately 150 undergraduate students majoring in mathematics. The session was moderated by academic advisor Haohui Zhang.
Professor Zhaobing Fan began by introducing the historical evolution of the School of Mathematical Sciences, its current status, and key accomplishments in discipline development. He also shared his recommendations on postgraduate advancement, focusing on leveraging academic opportunities and building confidence in career development. Using detailed data, real-life examples and engaging anecdotes, Fan provided a comprehensive understanding of the school’s achievements and addressed the students’ concerns.
The seminar transitioned into experience sharing by the three graduate representatives, who spoke about their journeys in securing postgraduate recommendations and preparing for entrance exams. They highlighted the importance of strategic planning, consistent effort and leveraging available resources.
The session was widely appreciated by the attendees. Jie Lin, a sophomore in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at Qiuzhi College, remarked, “professor Fan ’s lecture was incredibly insightful. It not only broadened my understanding of the school’s academic strengths but also reinforced my determination to pursue research in mathematics.”
